Heading 1

We are the Sheffield University Symphony Orchestra; a friendly, auditioned and high-quality symphony orchestra, made up of students from all over the University of Sheffield. We rehearse on Monday evenings and usually perform two concerts a year as a part of the University of Sheffield Concert series.

The orchestra is closely affiliated with the University's Department of Music and is conducted by Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey. Our recent repertoire has included Dvorak's Symphony No. 8, Borne's Carmen: Fantasia by a flute soloist, and Elgar's Symphony No. 1 as well and new pieces by student composers. There are also opportunities for student soloists and conductors.

The committee regularly put on socials including trips to professional concerts, nights out and a weekend away. Rehearsals are also always followed by a trip to the pub!
